Illustrated ATCs - WATER

Hey! I've discovered the fun world of illustrated ATC's which are Artist Trading Cards! So I'm trying to motivate myself to create lots of fun illustrations, and so I do these trading cards, and I send them off to people and they send me back an original piece of art! Cool, huh? So here is one I did for fun. It's the first in my "Elements" series of Water, Wind, Sun and Moon. ATC's are 2.5" X 3.5" (trading card size) and these particular ones are done in marker and colored pencil. I'll post the rest soon! If you want to see all 4, go to www.illustratedATCs.com and search for Liz Stevens Illustration. :))

The other "White House"

Here's the rest of the White House ruin at Canyon de Chelly. This is a really cool place and it was fun to draw.

My Trip West

This is a sketch I did in Canyon De Chelly in Arizona. What a beautiful place! So mysterious and wonderful. It was rainy season there so believe it or not the desert was blooming (and so were the mosquitos!). I took some creative license and if you look real close you can see some of the pictographs that were inscribed nearby.
Thanks to Redwing Nez for his hospitality. It was truly unforgettable.

My Summer Vacation

Well, it's been a week since I got back from my awesome summer out west. Nearly 3 weeks spent exploring the Eastern Sierras, Grand Canyon, and Navajo Land. This after 8 weeks spent at Summer Camp on the waterfront! Truly, truly inspiring. I'll be posting some of my sketches as soon as I can get them scanned and loaded up. In the meantime, here's one from the portfolio to tide you over.

Illustration Friday Topic - MOON

Illustration Friday -- MOON

This one came from an article about mysterious moving rocks in the desert. No one can figure out how or why they move around, they just leave tracks in the dirt. So I thought MAYBE it's because the rocks want to go home, or perhaps they are making signs to some faraway love, like the moon. Kind of cool.

Illustration Friday - CRASH

Here's a little spot I did for the CRASH theme. Actually, I called it WAR but it's about a 'crash' of personalities and what couples sometimes go through when they split up. It's not so much about a physical clash as it is about the psychological fights we all go through with our partners from time to time and how we wrestle with each other to get our way, and get our needs met.

Fortunately for me, I have a partner now that I don't wrestle with quite so much as I have with others in the past! He's really quite a guy, but that's another illustration altogether!

Keep drawing!

Later,

TGITHURSDAY

Hey, it's Thursday and that means it's almost FRIDAY. Thank god. I'm going to my studio to work on my web pages and children's book illos this weekend. I'm trying to update my style and be a little more current while still catering to the children's book arena. Also working on a postcard for a mailing. I've found some local sources for possible publishing. Wish me luck!

Oh, here's a scan of character sketches I'm thinking about for my web pages. The title strips will all follow a theme and tell a picture visually about a little burrowing owl and her adventures in the Florida countryside. I'm hoping to tie it to a story with an environmental message. Any input/critiques would be helpful.

Thanks!
Liz
